redemption by intervention

my wife started watching this new show called “intervention” on tv.  i must confess that i’ve watched it a few times as well.  watching it can be a problem though.  you look at the people that get approached on that show (or the other show about not being able to throw things away – forgot that name) and you begin to feel a little bit better about yourself.  you fall into the comparison game.  i’m not mother theresa, but i’m definitely not “that” person.

i wonder how much better off most of us really are.  most of us “look” better on the outside, but live just as much inward death as the people who are on that show ever have.  we play the game and convince ourselves that we are just great — all the while time slips away.

i think we should all pray for an intervention.  what would it be like to have friends that loved you so much that they were willing to lay it on the line and help you see what you couldn’t see about yourself?  do you have a community like that?  i think i’ve started to find a community like that in a church in the RDU area of NC called the Summit.  you should also check out http://www.hopeforrdu.com as well.  j.d. greear is the pastor, and aside from being a saint for being a Carolina fan, he is a daggum (Roy-speak) good preacher too.  he doesn’t tell you what  you want to hear.  he tells you what he senses God thinks you (the church at summit) need to hear).  that is a rare find these days.

one of the show “interventionists” is a guy by the name of jeff vanvonderen.  he has a book called, “tired of trying to measure up” that i would recommend to everyone.  he has some connections to an old ministry i was involved in when midtown church was started in atlanta.

praying for HIS intervention in all of our lives.  -M
